COLUMBUS DAY CLOSING INFORMATION
Closing Friday, October 10, 2025 at noon for
Employee Appreciation
Closed on Monday, October 13, 2025
All City of Covington Offices and State Offices will be closing Friday, October 10, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. Refuse for Friday, October 10, 2025 will run as normal. Your refuse collection will be picked up earlier than normal; so please sit refuse out by 7:00 a.m. that morning. We will also be closed on Monday, October 13, 2025, in observance of Columbus Day. Refuse collection for Monday, October 13, 2025, will be collected on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. State Offices (Commissioner of Revenue, Treasurer, and Registrar) will also be closed. All offices will reopen on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
Downtown Area Road Closure
September 22, 2025
The City of Covington would like to make citizens and businesses aware that on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., the 100 block of N. Court will be closed for road repairs. The block will remain closed during these hours until the project is complete.

We wanted to make citizens aware that the Treasurer's Office will be closed on October 16th and 17h to attend a mandatory class.

HYDRANT FLUSHING Date: October 12, 2025 – October 24, 2025
The City of Covington Public Works will be flushing Fire Hydrants throughout the City between Sunday, October 12, 2025 through Friday, October 24, 2025. This will take place from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., beginning the evening of October 12th. Please be aware that this may cause discoloration of your water. If you notice any discoloration, turn your water on and let it run until it clears up. Alleghany County Transfer Station usage for City Residents
Effective August 1, 2025
The City of Covington would like to make residents aware that effective Friday, August 1, 2025, if you personally take refuse to the Alleghany County Transfer Station, you will be responsible for any and all fees.

The City of Covington will bill City residents for these services and payment can be made to the City via mail or at the City’s Treasurer’s Office. |
The City of Covington’s refuse trucks will still pick up your refuse on your normal day.
