Chief Christopher J. Smith

Chief Christopher J SmithChief Smith is originally from New Jersey and started his career in Law Enforcement in the United States Air Force in April of 2000 at the age of 23. He was hired by Chief J. B. Broughman in 2004 and began in the division at the rank of patrolman. Chief Smith quickly progressed through the ranks, eventually being named Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety in January of 2020. Throughout Chief Smith’s career with the City of Covington, he has worked in a patrol as an officer and supervisor, school resource officer, crime prevention, D.A.R.E, narcotic investigations, 911 coordinator, administrative commander and emergency manager.
