The City of Covington would like to make our citizens and business owners aware the City of Covington Public Works Department will be working on removing the underground storage tanks at the old Public Works site beginning on Monday, July 18 thru Friday, July 22. Removal Work is set to take place from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. throughout that week. This work is required by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality as part of efforts to address any possible impacts from the storm and lightning that impacted Public Works during June. The City is working with Greene Environmental on the removal of the tanks and the dispensers. During these times the various streets and parking lots will be closed to the public during the work day. We ask citizens, and vehicles to avoid these areas if at all possible, and find alternate routes for the week of removal. The streets that will be affected are the 400th block of W Prospect Street, the alley located between the Public Works Site and the Union Hall, as well as the Parking Lot behind the Public Works Garage, adjacent to Fire Station 1. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work to keep our citizens and employees safe during the removal process.

Please direct any questions, comments, or concerns that you may have to the Public Works Department at 540-965-6322.
