The City of Covington would like to make citizens and businesses aware that per Section 53 and 54 of our code no signage can be placed within a public right-of-way.

Section 53: Part G: Signs in all districts states ‘No person except a public officer or employee in performance of a public duty shall paste, paint, print, nail, tack, erect, place or fasten any sign, pennant, banner of notice of any kind within, facing or visible to any public street or public open space, except as provided for in this chapter.’
Section 54: Part 3: Prohibited signs states ‘Any sign located within a public right-of-way, except for signs displayed by a duly constituted governmental authority.’

All signs located within the cities right-of-ways will be removed.  Citizens and businesses can pick up signs at City of Covington Public Works Department located at 150 S. Maple Ave, Covington, VA 24426.
